For Those Days When You Think You Can’t

This morning I have a message on my heart for those who may be feeling like they are incapable of fulfilling their calling- especially those who have been called to build a business, write a book or share their message.

When you have been divinely anointed and appointed- know that almost immediately, the Enemy will swoop in and do everything in his power to stop you from pursuit and fulfillment of that calling.

Why?

His M.O. (modus operandi a/k/a Method of Operation) is predictable.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy

John 10:10 (NIV)

He’s out to steal, kill and destroy. Remember-the Enemy is not capable of creation– simply destruction. He cannot force you to DO anything- only lead you to do things. You are in control. The primary place where he and his minions operate?

Your Mind.

Your mind is the battlefield.

{Side Note: You know how we oftentimes hear that there’s a war for your soul? Well, your mind is a part of your soul….along with your feelings, your will, and your conscience. I’ll share more on this in a future post!}

So, when we receive a calling… the Enemy goes into overdrive flooding our minds with thought “seeds” or “suggestions” that will neutralize us and stop us in our tracks. He hopes that this thought “seed” will lead us into INACTION on our calling. To feel DEFEATED before we even get started.

Which “seed” does he seek for us to take up and plant firmly in our mind in the form of a belief?

It varies- but when it comes to our calling…frequently it’s…

“I am not capable” or “I don’t know how” or “I can’t do this”

All three of these focus on US.

On our human capabilities. Which is the exact thing the Enemy wants because he’s sneaky like that!

I once heard that when it comes to discernment- there’s “RIGHT” and “ALMOST RIGHT”. It’s not a clear right and wrong answer…that would be too obvious! The Great Deceiver takes a grain of truth and wraps it in deceit to make it “almost true”.

When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

John 8:44 (NIV)

It’s ALMOST RIGHT that we cannot do the things we’ve been called to do in our strength. But when we are called by God we aren’t asked to do things in our own strength! We are co-creators with the Most High God.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV)

The Enemy would have you focus on the fact that YOU can’t do it- and if you plant that thought seed, it will sprout into a belief that you are incapable. What follows our beliefs? Decisions and ultimately action (or inaction).

Here’s how it this looks in real life (I speak from personal experience on this one)…

We’re called to do something we’ve never done before. It’s outside of our comfort zone. When we look at our inventory of knowledge, skillset, experience, and/or resources, we see that we do not have what we need right now. The Enemy swoops in and re-affirms that you don’t CURRENTLY HAVE what you need- and suggests that you are incapable of doing “the thing”.

We then plant that seed and it sprouts into the belief that “I am not capable”.

As a result, we DECIDE that we will either “not follow that prompting on our heart” or more frequently we will “delay” acting on the calling until some future date when we “HAVE” what we need. Either decision leads to INACTION.

Boom. The Enemy wins!

He has successful neutralized you. Ouch!

There has to be a better way! Right?!? A way that we can come to this battle for our mind armed and ready to go.

There is!

We need to come armed with the TRUTH about our Identity in Christ and the benefits package that comes with being a daughter of the Most High God!

So today, I want to provide you with an arsenal of TRUTH from the Word of God to help you fight back against the lies that you are not capable of fulfilling that which you have been called:

  • “I can do all things though Christ who strengthens me” (Phil 4:13)
  • I am God’s co-worker (2 Corinthians 6:1; 1 Corinthians 3:9)
  • The Holy Spirit lives in me (1 Corinthians 3:16)
  • I have access to God’s wisdom (James 1:5)
  • I am helped by God (Hebrews 4:16)
  • I am Christ’s ambassador (2 Corinthians 5:20)
  • I am a temple in which God dwells (1 Corinthians 3:16)
  • I am the light of the world (Matthew 5:14)
  • I am Chosen by Christ to bear fruit (John 15:6)
  • I am united to the Lord, one spirit with him (1 Corinthians 6:17)
  • I am chosen by God, holy and dearly loved (Col 3:12)
  • I have been given a spirit of power, love & self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7)
  • I have direct access to God through the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 2:18)
  • I have been established, anointed & sealed by God (2 Corinthians 1: 21, 22)
  • I am confident that the good work that God has begun in me will be perfected (Phil 1:6)

I would encourage you to read these absolute truths out loud. Print them out and post them in a place where you can read them and recite them over and over again, as I am.

As I read through that list- knowing that it is all TRUTH- every ounce of it- I feel empowered, and capable to do all that I have been called. I hope you will too!

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV)

The next time the Enemy tries to bait you into inaction- fight back with the Truth! We don’t need to see or currently have what we need to fulfill our calling.

You are the daughter or son of the King. You are richly blessed and when you walk out your calling with the Lord, know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you cannot fail. There may be obstacles…but nothing that you cannot overcome with the help of the One who called you in the first place.

He equips those whom he calls. He doesn’t need your ability…just your availability.

Today I want to challenge you– what have you been called to do that you have put on the back burner? Maybe it’s an action step that you haven’t taken because you haven’t felt capable. Call on the Lord your God, and ask Him to guide your next steps.

You’ve got this because God’s got this!

Love this message? Please share it with a friend who could use some encouragement today!
