Seek First

For years I viewed “quiet time” as a luxury. When could I “sneak away” and “make time” to be in the presence of God, and receive what He has for me?

Usually, my plan sounded something like this…

If I can just get my work and mom stuff done more efficiently today, then I’ll have time tonight after the kids go to bed to sit and just be with God.

Not surprisingly, my days rarely went according to plan.

If I DID manage to accomplish ALL the things….by the time I put the kids to bed, I was exhausted. I would get in bed with my journal and Bible to have my quiet time…but just a few minutes in my eyelids would become heavy and I would promise to myself and God, that I would “do better tomorrow.”

The cycle repeated itself for years.

One day, I was reading Jesus Calling, and I came across the concept that because God is omnipotent, He is able to bend time in our favor. That I would find that I could accomplish MORE in less time after I seek first the Kingdom.

I decided to put God to the test… and here I am, nearly 6 months later to testify to you that it’s true! God can bend time!

Now, I wake up at 5 AM…. I time that I used to think was an “ungodly hour” (see how deceitful the Enemy is?!?) and I typically get 1.5 to 2 hours to be with the Lord!

By the time I go inside to help my family, I am filled with strength and peace, and I find that our mornings run far more smoothly. In fact, my entire DAY runs more smoothly. Mind blown!

I was at the Christian Entrepreneurs Conference, and I remember one speaker discussing her routine, which was similar to mine, but she added a twist. She said that this was “tithing” of her time to the Lord.

I love that. To the One that made us. To the One that breathed life into our lungs. To the One who died on the cross to reconcile us to the Father, we give of our most precious commodity…. our time. First. Before all else.

This is how we can truly Seek First the Kingdom of God. This practice has transformed my life spiritually, physically and mentally… give it a try!

It is in this time, that I’m able to ask the Lord for guidance on HOW I should be running my day. What IS the most important? We must seek God’s wisdom.

Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”

James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

Seek first the Kingdom, sisters. It’s not a luxury, it’s a command. One that is there to bless us, not burden us.

Father God,

I repent of my tendencies to make my “to do” list an idol. It was never my intention. You are the first priority in my life. I want to diligently seek you first, Lord. Teach me, guide me Lord, and show me the path ahead and what is important in the day ahead of me. Thank you for lavishing me with your wisdom today, Lord.

In Jesus Name I Pray,

Amen
