One of my favorite verses is Jeremiah 29:11…
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you hope and a future.”
It may surprise you, that this verse is NOT the one I’m talking about today. And the “He” to which I’m referring is not our Most High God…but the Enemy.
With a palpable spiritual battle raging- we have to be armed with the knowledge of what we’re up against. What ARE the plans that the Enemy has for you? Have you ever stopped to consider it?
I’m currently in Priscilla Shrier’s study: “The Armor of God” and the entire first week is dedicated to uncovering who the Enemy is so we can protect ourselves accordingly.
The Lord wants to prosper you, to give you HOPE and a future.
The Enemy wants to confuse you, condemn you, steal from you, and destroy you…because you are God’s masterpiece.
Now before I go any further, I want you to remind you, dear sister, that the Lord has provided you with EVERYTHING you need to counter any plan that the Enemy has for you. Ephesians 1:3 reminds us that we have every spiritual blessing. In Ephesians, Paul tells us how we are to protect ourselves using the full armor of God.
We also know that the Enemy has been…
…disarmed & embarrassed (Col. 2:15)
…overruled (Ephesians. 1:20-22)
…mastered (Phil. 2:9-11)
…rendered powerless (Heb 2: 14)
…and all his hard work destroyed (1 John 3:8)
So that’s the GOOD news. We’re on the winning team. The Enemy loses. BUT (and one of my teachers used to say “and it’s a BIG BUT”) while we are here on Earth, the Enemy is running amok. His plans are to derail us (and entire nations) from God’s intended plan.
He wants to bind us up, and render us completely ineffective while we are here on Earth, which is his kingdom.
That’s right- you have to remember that the Lord allows the Enemy to rule the Earth. So, sister, we are on a battlefield. We have to be able to recognize the tactics of the Enemy, so that we’re not pulled away from the path the Lord has intended for us.
We need to call on the power of the Holy Spirit to help us discern the lies and schemes of the Enemy, because girl, his plans do not come wrapped up in red paper with little pitch forks on it. Nope.
He wraps it up in shiny, beautiful wrapping paper…makes it look all pretty. He may even present it with a grain of truth, just to make things look more appealing. But, there’s always fine print. The consequences he hopes that we don’t see first because if we did, we would never take the bait.
One of the biggest things I’ve discovered, is that busy-ness and overwhelm are hallmarks of the Enemy’s schemes. Because busy-ness and overwhelm render us ineffective.
This is why each day, I begin with quiet time with the Lord. I ask HIM to set the course of my day. I “seek first the kingdom of Heaven” before moving onto anything else. Instead of hitting the ground running on all of the “things” I need to do… I sit with the Lord.
He can help you sift between the necessary and the unimportant daily. He wants to! In these quiet times we can take our plans to the Lord and ask Him to help us refine them.
I have found when my day begins with the Lord- and specifically asking for guidance on what I should be doing in a day, I am filled with peace and calm. I do not not feel overwhelmed no matter what I have before me that day. My days run so much smoother- it’s amazing!
I want to encourage you to try this…begin your day with the Lord. More specifically, at some point during your quiet time–intentionally seek His guidance on what YOU need to be focusing on that day. Ask for discernment on opportunities that have already come before you.
Know that saying “YES” to everything (even seemingly good things like volunteering for lots of Church things) might not be what the Lord wants for you… and instead it’s a tactic to keep you stuck in overwhelm, burnout and exhaustion.
Take it all to the Lord. Ask HIM which opportunities align with His plans for you each day. He designed the plan for your life…He would love nothing more than for His children to come to Him for guidance on how to accomplish His plans. Plans that are to prosper you, give you HOPE and future!
Thank you for the amazing plans you have for my life– plans that are to prosper me, not harm me. Plans to give me hope and a future. I’m so sorry for the times I have been wrapped up in my busy-ness and to-do lists, and forgot to seek you first. Please renew my mind today, and help me discern what on my list today will further YOUR plans.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
